How To Read A Supplement Label Without Getting Fooled

Proprietary blends, per-serving maths, daily value gaps and the badges that mean nothing. A five-minute guide to reading any supplement label properly.

Almost Everything You Need Is On The Back

The front of a supplement bottle is advertising. The back is information. Learning to read the back takes about five minutes and it will save you money for the rest of your life.

1. Check The Serving Size First

This is the most common trick in the category. A label shows an impressive amount of an active, and the serving size is two gummies or three capsules. If you take one, you get half or a third of what you read.

Everything else on the label is per serving, so if you get this number wrong, every other number you calculate is wrong too.

2. Look For A Proprietary Blend

A proprietary blend is a list of ingredients with one total weight instead of individual amounts. "Metabolic Blend 450 mg" tells you nothing. The first ingredient could be 440 mg and the last five could be a pinch each, and that is usually exactly what it is.

Blends are legal and common. They are also the clearest signal that a manufacturer would rather you did not do the maths.

3. Do The Per-Serving Maths

Take the amount of the ingredient you actually care about and compare it with what the research used. If a study used 500 mg and the label gives 50 mg, you are holding a flavour, not a dose.

4. Ignore Badges That Mean Nothing

Some badges are meaningful: GMP certification refers to how a facility is run, third-party testing is a real check. Others are decoration. "FDA approved" is the biggest red flag of all — no dietary supplement is FDA approved, so any product claiming it is either does not know the rules or is hoping you do not.

5. Read The Warnings And The Allergens

The small print at the bottom is the part with actual legal weight. Allergens, medication warnings, and who should not take it. If you take prescription medicine, this is the section that matters most.

6. Ask What Each Ingredient Is For

A good formula has actives that do different jobs. If five ingredients all claim to do the same thing, you are paying five times for one effect. If the label names them and you can find out what each one does — the way we set out the five Alkatide ingredients — that is a decent sign.

The Sixty-Second Version

Serving size. Named amounts, not blends. Compare with the research. Ignore fake badges. Read the warnings. If a label survives all five, it is probably worth your money.

A note on what this is. This article is general information, not medical advice. Alkatide is a dietary supplement and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. If you take prescription medicine or manage a health condition, speak to your doctor before starting any supplement.
